Supercritical Co2 Fluid Extraction Kettle : Process scale

Supercritical CO2 extraction process

Supercritical fluid extraction technology is a new separation technology in modern chemical separation. Supercritical CO2 extraction machine is a device that uses CO2 in a supercritical state as an extractant to extract effective components from various substances.

CO2 reaches a supercritical state under specific temperature and pressure conditions. At this time, it has the low viscosity and high diffusivity of gas and the good solubility of liquid. The material to be extracted is placed in the extraction kettle, and supercritical CO2 flows through the extraction kettle at a certain temperature, pressure and flow rate, fully contacts with the material, dissolves the target components and carries them out. Subsequently, the supercritical CO2 fluid containing the extract enters the separation kettle, and by changing the temperature and pressure, CO2 becomes gaseous and separates from the extract, thereby obtaining a pure extract.

Supercritical CO2 fluid extraction kettle is one of the keys to the development of supercritical extraction technology. It needs to solve the problems of machinery, heat exchange, fluid transportation and safety assurance caused by the process under high pressure (generally 8-35Mpa or higher). It should be safe, easy to operate, highly versatile, and can be operated continuously on the premise of meeting the production purpose.

Supercritical CO2 extraction kettles are usually made of pressure-resistant materials and are mainly used to hold the materials to be extracted. The equipment should be able to withstand the high pressure of supercritical CO2. According to the regulations on pressure vessels, it belongs to high-pressure equipment, and different extraction kettles should be selected for materials in different forms.

Scale of extraction kettle device

The volume of laboratory supercritical CO2 fluid extraction kettle is generally below 500mL, with a simple structure, no CO2 circulation equipment, and a pressure bearing capacity of up to 70Mpa, which is suitable for laboratory exploratory work.

The extraction kettle volume of pilot equipment is generally 1~20L, with good matching, CO2 can be recycled, and is suitable for process research and small batch sample production.

The extraction kettle volume of industrial production equipment is generally 50L to several cubic meters. Foreign countries mainly use equipment from German UHDE and KRUPP companies. my country can currently make 500~1000L industrial extraction equipment.

Conclusion

Supercritical CO2 extraction kettle is a device used for supercritical CO2 fluid extraction, mainly used to extract specific components from liquids or solids. Its working principle is to utilize the dissolving capacity of supercritical CO2 and achieve selective extraction of target components by adjusting pressure and temperature.
